Brachychiton acerifolius

Description

Spectacular for large gardens and parks. Grown as a street tree in Australia and Santa Barbara, California. Bright green, shiny, palmate shaped leaves with red bell-shaped flowers appearing sporadically. Flowers best after a hot dry summer. Leaves burnt by frost but return in spring. Tolerant of most soil types and positions. Excellent container plant for indoors or patio. Can be grown from cuttings or seed. Often grown around swimming pools as they have a compact root system and not a lot of leaf drop.
