Hakea pandanicarpa

Description

Attractive large bushy shrub from south-west Western Australia grown main for it's large seed pods that are similar to Pandanus fruits. The really large seed pods take about 3 years to really develop and has a beautiful corky feel with small pyramids protruding all around. Very odd and unusual. Fast growing, drought hardy and frost tolerant. Unhappy in humid climates. Beautiful tan new growth and profuse creamy white scented flowers with rusty red style in spring. Non-lignotuberous. Could be grown as a small tree. Excellent for hot dry sites. Seed pods are great in cut flower arrangements and wreaths. New introduction to California.
