Bauhinia galpinii

Description

Handsome shrub suitable to most dry gardens. Butterfly shaped green leaves and soft terracotta flowers in late spring summer. I love this plant. It freezes in Casitas Springs CA below 25F but comes back in spring. Great plant for filling in spaces as it spreads wherever it can fit in the garden. Bauhinia galpinii comes from the savannas of South Africa, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe. (SMG) We grew it in the dry tropics, Mount Isa, Queensland where it thrived.
